In, 2016, the parish based First Holy Communion preparation programme, ‘Do This in Memory’ was introduced for children in both our Primary Schools.This has been a very successful programme used throughout Ireland these past ten years and children really enjoy it. On one Sunday each month the children and their parents receive a special invitation to attend either the 9.30am Mass in St Joseph’s Church, Glenavy, for the children of Ballymacrickett P.S. or the 10.30am Mass in Mater Dei Church, Crumlin, for the children attending St Joseph’s Primary School. On the first Sunday of the programme, the 9th October, known as Enrolment Sunday almost 100 children and their families joined us. Although it is a voluntary programme it was very encouraging that most of the children and their parents have agreed to take part. Throughout the year notice of the Do This In Memory Sundays will be posted in the Bulletin. It is hoped that ‘Do This In Memory’ will become a regular event in our parish, as it is in many parishes throughout Ireland.
